The community agreement is largely ripped off from another forum. It isn’t intended to have anything surprising in it. The “Be polite and lawful” clause is rather onerous, but it serves as a reference to the degree of civility we’re looking for, which is somewhat more elevated than, say, a junior high gaming club’s Fortnite build vs combat superiority flame war thread.
We intend to develop a supportive and collaborative environment: we want both at once to celebrate & support the games we publish, and to build other new stuff together. These two worlds of activities are not typically combined, but we’re going to give it a shot. If someone’s going to dump a bunch of spritesheets from Fighto Fantasy, we want them to do it here. If someone’s going to use them to make a tactical wrestling mini-game, we want them to post it here. If you want to party up to make something entirely new from scratch–please, do it here!
Is this the typical game publisher’s forums and chat rooms? I don’t know, you tell me. What’s it like in the Blizzard, Bethesda, or Valve forums? Did you post on Capcom Unity in the glory days? Help us make something magic!
Since our concept here is a work-in-progress, we’ll be revising the community agreement periodically to hammer out the details. We will be nuking your web session and asking you to sign in again when we update it. Sorry for the inconvenience. It shouldn’t be too often, but put your long posts on the clipboard first. On discord you’ll need to re-board whenever we update the agreement.
If it seems a bit overly-formal… just bear in mind…
…in the future this space will be used to explain a more complex legal apparatus we’re working on to allow everyone to collaborate on game engines, celebratory content, and even up to complete fan-games–which we’ll actually publish. This is what we’re here to do. All aboard, brace for lift-off! We’re going on an adventure together (eventually)
